Wellbeing and experience

Personal wellbeing is being acknowledged more and more, both in the workplace and in society. Many things impact our wellbeing, which influence and shape our health and welfare, in our work lives and our personal ones. Personal experience is an important part of our company’s social value goals and people are the ones who benefit most from its effects. A simple way of supporting our employees is to be unambiguous about employee policies. These include Statutory Sick Pay, Statutory Maternity Pay or Statutory Paternity Pay. Another way people are impacted is in the environment where they live and work. We try to be at the forefront of developments in this area. We make social value a priority, intrinsic to our day-to-day approach to working.

Carbon neutral target

Since 2013, we have been ISO 14001 certified and have therefore tracked our carbon output for more than 10 years. We also publish our scope 1-3 carbon emissions on our website [https://tinyurl.com/4jf3cjy9]. This data details our total scope 1 emissions for fleet cars, total scope 2 emissions for energy consumption and total scope 3 tracking of our indirect emissions. As we monitor these figures, we have a carbon reduction plan in place. It’s our goal to be carbon neutral by 2038. This is in line with Greater Manchester and Liverpool City Councils’ carbon neutral targets.

Leading by example

Our commitment to social value runs throughout our business. Powers’ director, Lucy Powers, co-chairs the employer trailblazer group. This is reviewing the Geospatial Apprenticeship (level 3 and 6) standards. She also speaks about geospatial surveying at local schools, to support the potential surveyors of tomorrow. Lucy acts as a volunteer mentor for business owners in the North West, through Greater Manchester’s Growth Company and the Women in Property mentor scheme. She also chairs a Community Interest Company (CIC), which she came to via Cheshire Connect. Powers also donates £5 for every client perception questionnaire completed to West Cheshire Foodbank.

The highest standards

Our company is ISO certified in 9001 (quality), 14001 (environmental management) and 45001 (health & safety) by a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) organisation. This means we work to standards that satisfy the highest access security requirements. These include the working standards of the aviation, security, defence and aerospace sectors. The cumulative effects of our many accreditations and initiatives go towards our investment in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals of the company. These are underpinned by the four pillars of environmental, human, social and economic sustainability as well as corporate governance and beyond.

Value for the future

Apprenticeships are a key aspect of our company’s ESG goals. As part of our commitment to this, we run a sustainable apprenticeship scheme. We currently employ Level 3 Geospatial Survey Technician Apprentices. We eagerly await the introduction of the Level 6 Geospatial Mapping and Science Specialist Degree Apprenticeship, due to launch in September 25. Once launched, this will give our young people the career progression they are looking for within the geospatial profession.

We are committed to investing both in our people and in our company to maintain the sustainability of Powers for decades to come. We value all our employees and are committed to recognising their hard work, as they are integral to Powers’ continued success and future achievements.

For an SME, our teams work hard to drive more than just sales growth. We are committed to ensuring the team we work with is happy and healthy. Each team member has a clear purpose to all their objectives, whilst delivering top quality surveying services to satisfy the demands of all of our clients. If you’d like to know more about what we’re up to, keep an eye on our social media or give Lucy a ring on 01928 734473 for more information.
